Podcast UGC – Episode 187: Delta Recruits

This week, since Hav is recovered from his life threatening bacterial infection (mostly), Rikturscale and Hav make clear that they are NOT friends by any means, Rik joins him in celebration by wishing a pox on him and his family (this may or may not have actually happened), and Hav’s arch nemesis Captain Geko wishes him a speedy recovery. This makes perfect sense in the topsy turvy world that is Podcast UGC.

We talk about the new Delta Recruitment event, the new episode that continues a really, really old story … we hypothesize on what could be in the center of the Harold Sphere (and who the hell Harold is…?), lament that the Pilot Specialization on the GROUND would pretty much confirm that our starships are more than meets the eye (they’re robots in disguise!), we debate what piece of rejected Jem Hadar Strike ship art would have made a cooler ship, and we read email. Lots, and LOTS of email. Oh. And then there’s the AfterSTO. So Give it a listen!

    The AfterSTO starts @ 00:35:30

Is Venus The Planet We Should Colonize?

Mars One. The Mars Rover. Bruno Mars. Mars Bars. It’s pretty clear we’re OBSESSED with the idea of Mars, especially in regard to it being a potential colony for earthlings. But is that really the best option? Is there a better place for us to colonize in our solar system? Well, how about Venus? Sure the surface temperature is over 450 degrees Celsius, with crazy pressure, but there might be a smart way around that, making Venus a better option for long term colonization than Mars! How?

    It’s “Peeback Time!”

Residents Cover Walls with Super Hydrophobic Material, Splashes Pee Back on Public Urinators

The residents of St. Pauli, party central of Hamburg, Germany, have decided to fight back against public urinators. A St. Pauli community organization coated numerous walls with a super hydrophobic material that causes urine to splash back at public urinators. While some of the walls treated with the substance have been labeled, there are many that haven’t. Continue reading for a video and more information.

“The whole campaign has a silly air to it, but it seems like it might actually work. As one St. Pauli resident warns in the campaign’s video, ‘it’s peeback time,'” says Bored Panda.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame

    • Fill Out The Form for Rikturscale’s Contest to Win His HORDE OF MANY THINGS!

    Nominate a Game

Which video games deserve a place in the World Video Game Hall of Fame inaugural class? Nominations received by March 31, 2015, will be considered for the June 2015 induction.

    Selection Criteria

The World Video Game Hall of Fame recognizes individual electronic games of all types—arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile—that meet the following criteria:

    • Icon-status: the game is widely recognized and remembered.
    • Longevity: the game is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over time.
    • Geographical reach: the game meets the above criteria across international boundaries.

Influence: The game has exerted significant influence on the design and development of other games, on other forms of entertainment, or on popular culture and society in general. A game may be inducted on the basis of this criterion without necessarily having met all of the first three.

Podcast UGC – Episode 186: Attack of the Strike Ships

This week, we explore the new Jem’Hadar Strike Ship and how similar … or different … it is to the previous bugship we all loved, the Jem’Hadar Attack Ship. Additionally, we read a LOT of feedback from last week’s show, we discuss Microsoft Hololens or something, Hav whines about Supergirl’s costume in the new TV show, Hav and Rik predict what will be the first 7 games inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame (and read some of yall’s predictions as well), and Hav and Rik talk about Google decreeing itself the keepers of truth. Give it a listen!

Podcast UGC – Episode 185: R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy

In this epic, nearly 4 hour long podcast, the actor and artist who brought Spock to life has passed away. We not only remember the influence Leonard Nimoy had on our lives, but Hav questions his emotional capacity, again, when he accuses people of jumping on the “Dead Spock Yay Me Too!” band wagon instead of actually grieving for him. Hav and Rikturscale then explore the cause of grief for people we know and don’t know, the fundamental reality of inevitable death in our universe, and what are the missing pieces of understanding how different people relate to other people in unexpected ways.

We also explore how the walls are coming down in STO and how the star systems are being scaled up, we read some email (yay!), and that gets us talking about good television shows, bad television shows, and argue whether the new television show Gotham is better than the first season of TNG. Yes, we have a difference of opinion here.

    Give it a listen!

Really the whole show is pretty AfterSTOish.

Podcast UGC – Episode 184: So We Played STO

After spending way too much time playing with ourselves (our microphones, you sick freaks), we finally got down to business and recorded an epically long podcast. What’s in it? Hav’s wants, Hav’s dreams, Hav’s desires. … well actually no, just Hav’s dreams. Wait. Where are you going? Come back!

Rik and Hav argue over what a psychopath is, and whether a sociopath is the same thing. We also talk about the trouble with making video productions, and how blizzards are way more dangerous in the south than they are the north. Also, yes, we played STO. We played a lot of STO. So just give it a listen!

    Show Notes
    – Mic Problems
    – Hav’s Dreams
    – Blizzards

Podcast UGC – Episode 183: I’d Rather Be Exercising

This week, Rikturscale’s mic is unusually broken, we split up to improve audio quality, we reveal the whereabouts of the video portion of last week’s show, Hav’s strange new addiction, the new ships that are coming to STO, some crazy crazy item crafting costs, and in the AfterSTO? Netflix is planning a live action Zelda series, and Nintendo is planning on giving youtubers a teeny tiny little bit of the profit of their own work.

    The AfterSTO Begins @ 00:42:45!

    Give it a listen!

Podcast UGC – Episode 182: Hanging Out Is Hard To Do

This week’s hour long show was actually several hours long as we spent an exorbitant amount of time trying to figure out how to use Google+ Hangouts to not only return to a live experience, but to possibly provide video for our audience. Our results were … mixed, but our video exists! Just give us time to edit it and … stuff. A new executive producer graces Star Trek Online, Hav’s new mantra is “One or None!”, Rik loves Wick, and Hav wrestles his inner demons … of fattyness. This week, on Podcast UGC!

Podcast UGC – Episode 181: The Moral Wishy-Washy Ground

This week’s middle-of-the-night podcast was recorded because we love everyone who loves to hate us hating each other. Don’t think about it. You’re welcome.

This week, we explore all the new cool stuff that is coming to Star Trek Online, like we always do, with Rikturscale actually knowing what all those cool new things are, like he always does, and me, not knowing what those things are, like I never do. … don’t think about that either.

In the AfterSTO, Hav celebrates the digital re-release of one of his favorite games of all time: Metroid Prime Trilogy, which culminates in our weekly console war between Nintendo and Microsoft. Additionally, the cast of the Ghostbusters reboot has been revealed … and they’re all women. This results in Hav expressing his concern about a gender-swap Ghostbusters remake containing a political, feminist agenda. Rikturscale promptly calls Hav an idiot. Then we tackle the controversy surrounding the nationwide hit film American Sniper. Hav doesn’t understand what’s going on in the broken minds of the film’s detractors. Rikturscale, unsurprisingly at this point, defends them, because he’s an agent of Satan and a grand wizard of the Illuminati. This all culminates in the highlight of the AfterSTO – our debate on whether morality is a relative, subjective opinion … or, whether morality can be quantified and therefor deduced with science and reason. Take that, Tested Podcast!

Not that we actually tested anything. Or that Tested even knows who we are. … or that I even know what Tested is. Where am I again?
